Diversity

Yesterday, I mentioned one word which is Diversity in my Namkaran post. In today's world suddenly everyone has started talking about this word. We can find this word from the field of politics to economics and from newspapers to books, almost everywhere. Global standards are redefined by Global institutions like UNO and World Bank etc based on this keyword. West has started acknowledging the fundamental nature of reality in this Information Era.

But they still need to learn how to live in a diverse atmosphere. But before that let me mention the definition of this word according to Oxford Dictionary.

 Diversity:-
  1. the state of being diverse; variety.

  2. the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc.
These are two definitions of this word in the Oxford Dictionary. When I googled, they have shown me this.
I can tell with full confidence that this Definition is very primitive in nature.

Now, let me tell you why am I saying so...

It is because this definition sounds so romantic and full of a sense of independence. This definition does not portray the other side of the coin. We Indians know that well.
And that is because we Indians thrive in Diversity since the beginning of the Rig Vedic Era.

First of all, let me define It as a layman's term... So...
What is Diversity?
Answer:- It is the sense of adaptability and management of that adaptability according to the need of the situation to accomplish a particular goal. In the Hindi language, it is called Jugaad. Actually, Jugaad is a by-product of Diversity.

I also found that Western Intellectuals categorized Diversity into many sub-sections. Like...Cultural diversity, Racial diversity, Religious diversity, Age diversity, Sex / Gender diversity, Sexual orientation, etc.

I think all these divisions are mere products of intellectual observation. In my understanding Diversity can only be classified into two major aspects.

1. Macro Aspect which is known as Conventional Diversity.
2. Micro Aspect which is known as Executable Diversity.

Conventional Diversity:- This is a type of diversity which we can find every new place we visit. All the categories of diversity which are made by Intellectuals fall into this classification.
Executable Diversity:- This is a type of diversity that we can use to acknowledge something. For example, think about a Joint Family (Mostly found in India) where a total of 10 members live together. Now, every morning women of that house wake up early morning and after bathing, they quickly get into the kitchen for making breakfast for all the members of that family. And each of them needs different types of breakfasts to start their day. This process of satisfying their hunger without compromising with their taste is what I called executable diversity.

There are many such examples you can find in day-to-day life. The idea of Jugaad itself falls into this category.

In one word Diversity means Chaos. But this Chaos has its own beauty and power. No Organised planning works perfectly in diversity if that planning doesn't support adaptability. West still needs to go a long way to understand what is Diversity in its truest form.

Thank you 🙂
